Workflow

Load → Analyze → confirm tempo/meter → choose phrase/downbeat + ALIGN points → arrange/grid-correct/warp → trim/region/fade → audition the automatic preview → optionally Render Final → Export WAV. Export always guarantees final-current audio first.

Analysis intelligence

AUTO scores 3/4, 4/4 and 6/8 bar cycles and reports confidence. ½ BPM / ×2 BPM correct tempo-octave mistakes without discarding the detected grid. P# markers are advisory phrase entrances.

Match Assist

MATCH scores key relationship, tempo and meter compatibility. SUGGEST PAIR proposes phrase-level A/B ALIGN points only. It never moves audio until you explicitly apply alignment.

Stems

STEMS supports local Vocals / Drums / Bass / Other files or an optional separator provider. Stems inherit the track edit map and expose per-stem MUTE, SOLO and LEVEL.

Session relinking

RELINK FILES uses remembered filename plus lightweight size/type/modified metadata. Automatic restore blocks an old edit map when a same-named source has a conflicting saved size.

Project packaging

SAVE PACKAGE writes a normal Phase edit map plus an explicit source/stem asset manifest. Audio bytes stay outside the package so sessions remain lightweight and can be archived or handed off with their source files.

Diagnostics + recovery

DIAG checks Web Audio, workers, PWA/storage state, decoded-audio memory, boot timings, deployed build identity, grids, stems and render state. Runtime launch/error history is retained locally. recovery.html can reset the app shell even when the workstation itself will not finish loading.

Help + accessibility

HELP contains the current workflow and keyboard map; press ? to open it. Phase exposes live status announcements, keyboard-focusable musical markers, semantic toolbars/dialogs, stronger focus states, reduced-motion support and high-contrast preferences.

Arrangement editing

Select a track, place the playhead, then I / O sets nondestructive IN and OUT points. REGION selects a reusable project range; Shift-drag bypasses snapping. Region → Loop makes that range the audition/export loop.

Fades

With a REGION selected, FADE IN / OUT applies to the active track instantly in the mix layer. A→B crossfades Track A out and Track B in over the same region.

Preview + final render

Cheap mix edits and placement update immediately. Timing/pitch edits debounce into a cancellable FAST background preview after you stop editing. Existing valid BALANCED/HIGH audio is reused instead of downgraded. FINAL QUALITY controls explicit render and export.

Render engine

Timing-only renders preserve clean PCM outside changed warp regions and run granular DSP only where timing changes. Stem mode sends active stem sources through the same timing/pitch map. FAST / BALANCED / HIGH control final-render cost.

Resource preflight

Before unusually large final renders or automatic stem separation, Phase estimates resident plus temporary working audio memory. Normal sessions stay silent; only caution/severe projections ask before continuing.

Project transport

Click or drag the ruler to seek. Playback starts at the playhead. When a preview is current, playback says PREVIEW; while it is catching up, playback continues using the previous completed audio without blocking editing.

Session safety

Phase autosaves the latest project map locally, persists again when the page hides/freezes/closes, and supports metadata Undo / Redo. Source and stem files remain local unless you explicitly send a source to a configured separator.

Original demo

DEMO generates two original synthetic tracks locally, then loads them through the same file/decode path as real audio. No copyrighted demo track and no network request are required to learn the workstation.

Startup performance

The core editor boots first. DEMO, STEMS, DIAG and HELP load after the first paint/idle window, while pressing ? forces HELP to load immediately. DIAG records local startup timing so launch performance can be measured instead of guessed.

Nondestructive rule

Source audio is never overwritten. Visual/project edits are authoritative. Automatic previews and final renders are replaceable derived caches generated from the edit map.
